When do you choose to use the 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement?

I use the solution in all indirect restorations and cementations. It has excellent clean-up characteristics, and it fulfils all of the roles I need it to very well. As a self-adhesive I use it for passive cementation of crowns and also post cementation. In adhesive mode (when used with the 3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive) I use it to bond all my indirect adhesive restorations from resin bonded bridges to glass ceramic overlays.

What place does the 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement have in your workflow?

The 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement has effectively replaced all the previous luting cements I used.

I’ve cut down from three or four different options to just one resin cement that I know I can trust in all situations. It’s really simplified stock management and also made cementation procedure much easier for myself and my nursing staff.

Having used the 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement constantly for around three years now, it’s been a pleasure to use and I’ve not observed any failed restorations. It’s always a risk converting to a new material but I think because 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement and 3M™ RelyX™ Ultimate Resin Cement have established track records, I feel in safe hands.

When should clinicians consider using 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement, and the advantages it provides?

There are many small factors that make 3M™ RelyX™ Universal my preferred resin cement. When I’m cementing an adhesive overlay, I will have already completed an immediate dentine seal. To me it is ideal to have use a bond (3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive) that contains a silane to help me adhere to the resin coating. I’m also looking for a cement combination where the bond will dual cure with the resin cement, in ‘dark mode’, this means I can avoid curing the adhesive before cementation and prevent pooling and mis-fits.

Then there are other ergonomic factors. 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement offers excellent handling, ergonomics and exceptionally easy cleanup of the cement. To give another example, say that you want to bond a fiber post in a root canal space. The 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement can adapt with the helpful elongation tips, supporting clinicians whether you need the self-adhesive or adhesive approach.

What other attributes of the 3M™ RelyX™ Universal Resin Cement should clinicians be aware of?

It sounds trivial but I really like the delivery of the cement. The syringes are very neat and the clever syringe tips radically reduce material waste. You can also safely store the syringe without a tip due to a clever self-sealing design. This makes the product really space efficient, hygienic and prevents premature curing due to incorrect storage. I also think it’s a real benefit that you don’t have to store the material in a fridge.

The material comes in 4 shades so you have a lot of choice and it is highly aesthetic. The material has a good shelf life anyway but because you can use it for so many indications it never ends up sat in a cupboard out of date (like many other cements before it).

Dental professionals can use the versatile universal resin cement in a number of workflows, whilst being confident in an outstanding self-adhesive bond strength, which is enhanced with the support of 3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive.
